What if you could create a private practice that served the population you’re passionate about and allowed you to serve as a consultant, author, speaker or parent education and empowerment coach? It is possible to do more and think bigger - personally and professionally! I am talking all about this today with my guest, Crystal Sanford, from Sanford Autism Consulting. Crystal has been in the field of Speech Therapy for 20 years. Her areas of experience include social language disorders, language/articulation disorders as well as communication assessments and treatment for individuals with Autism. She also enjoys her leadership experiences in the field, such as mentoring Speech-Language Pathologists who are beginning their careers. Crystal became acquainted with Autism in a new way when her daughter was diagnosed with Autism. In 2016, Crystal was inspired to open Sanford Autism Consulting, a place where other Autism and special needs moms could find clarity, support, and HOPE for their IEP journey. In Today's Episode, We Discuss:

In 1998, Crystal began working as a Speech Therapist in the public school setting in Los Angeles County, California. In 2004, she moved to San Diego, California and continued her work with children of all ages in public schools. Her areas of experience include social language disorders, language/articulation disorders as well as communication assessments and treatment for individuals with Autism. She has also enjoyed her leadership experiences in the field, such as mentoring Speech-Language Pathologists who are beginning their careers.
Throughout the years, Crystal has found her work with clients of Autism to be the most rewarding. She found it so gratifying to see students who have struggled to communicate their ideas or have struggled to maintain friendships find success and hope. In 2014, Crystal became acquainted with Autism in a new way when her daughter was diagnosed with Autism. For her family, the diagnosis brought relief and helped to confirm their suspicions. The family then embarked on their Autism journey. Because of her work experience in the public school system, Crystal was able to navigate the waters of special education with minimal challenge. However, she began to realize how little support was offered and available to families throughout the IEP process. In 2016, Crystal was inspired to open Sanford Autism Consulting, a place where other Autism and special needs moms could find clarity, support, and HOPE for their IEP journey. When Crystal is not passionately working with families and community members, you can find her reading, exercising, gardening, or enjoying non-technology time with her husband and two daughters. ![]()
