Speech Pathology Private Practice Salary: Survey results from 2013

According to ASHA, the median speech pathology private practice salary for SLPs who were full-time private practice owners or co-owners was $72,798. (2013 data)

Private practice speech pathologist salary differences are often based on practice location (higher pay in metropolitan and urban areas; lesser pay in rural areas. 


Of speech private practice co-owners, the median salary was $72,798. 

While the majority of speech pathologists in private practice work full-time (59%) many speech therapy private practice owners work part-time (41%).
 The likelihood of working part-time increased with years of experience.

In terms of how speech pathologist private practice owners spend their time, the majority spend their time providing individual and group treatment (direct service) with about 20% of their time spent on speech therapy documentation.

The median per visit hourly private speech therapy rate was $70.00 per visit. Private pay clients were the most popular, followed by private insurance and Medicaid/Medicare. 

This information was presented with information gathered from 688 private practice owner ASHA members.

I appreciate that you mentioned that 59% of speech pathologists work full time. My daughter has some issues with her speech so I'm looking into getting her help. It's nice to know that there's a lot of speech pathologists out there who can fit within my schedule.
